Lookup Montgomery County Inmate Records

Montgomery County inmate records start with the county jail roster and sheriff custody channels, but a full Montgomery County jail roster search may also require phone, court, state prison, federal, and victim-notification checks. Local jail records cover people in county custody before trial, serving local sentences, or held for transfer. Sentenced Indiana prisoners move to a separate state locator. Federal and immigration detainees use federal systems. A careful search matches the person's custody stage to the right record holder.

Montgomery County Jail Roster

The official local route for Montgomery County inmate records is the sheriff's Find an Inmate page. It is the county sheriff's inmate-finder entry point, but research did not capture a visible public search form, roster result, or sample inmate profile in text rendering. That means the page should be treated as the first stop, not as proof that every roster field is available to every browser session.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office operates the jail at 600 Memorial Drive in Crawfordsville. Sheriff Ryan Needham's official site lists the office and jail phone as (765) 362-3740, with fax (765) 362-1587 and non-emergency (765) 362-0885. The jail holds adult pretrial detainees, people serving local jail sentences, temporary holds, and work-release participants. It does not hold sentenced IDOC prisoners as a state-prison locator, and it is not a BOP or ICE detention facility.

The official Jail Info page is important because it supplies the operational record context the inmate finder did not expose: Securus for video visits, calls, and messages; Access Corrections for commissary deposits; Indiana SAVIN for notification; AllPaid for online bond payments; mail restrictions; property release; medical care; visitation; and programs.

Use Montgomery County Inmate Search

Start with the local sheriff channel, then widen the search only when the jail channel does not answer the custody question. A person may be booked under a middle name, prior surname, alias, or incomplete first name. A person may also be released, transferred to IDOC, held for another county, moved under federal authority, or listed in court records before a public custody result is easy to find.

  1. Open the official sheriff Find an Inmate page and allow any embedded roster or app-supported view to load.
  2. If a search box appears, search by name and follow the visible instructions instead of guessing hidden fields.
  3. If the page does not show a roster result, call the jail information line at (765) 362-3740.
  4. Use Indiana SAVIN or VINELink Indiana for custody alerts and status notification.
  5. Search Indiana MyCase for court charges, hearing dates, dispositions, and case numbers after a jail arrest.
  6. Search IDOC, BOP, or ICE if the jail says the person has moved or is held under another authority.

For immediate custody, the sheriff or jail is still the best source. For charges filed in court after arrest, MyCase and the Montgomery County Clerk are the better record sources. The jail roster and court case index can point to the same event, but they are not the same record.

Montgomery County Roster Fields

The local roster field table is limited because the official page did not expose a normal form in the accessible text capture. The correct build choice is to show what was verified and avoid making up labels for name, booking number, facility, or date filters. If a browser-rendered roster later displays fields, those labels can be added after visual inspection.

Montgomery County Inmate Profile

Do not assume the Montgomery County public profile shows the same fields that some jail vendors display elsewhere. Research did not confirm a public booking number, booking date, mugshot, demographics, charges, bond, housing unit, court date, arresting agency, or release status on the sheriff's text-rendered inmate finder. The sheriff can still maintain jail records that are not exposed through that page.

Montgomery County Custody Channels

Every Montgomery County inmate record search should keep the full access chain in view. The county jail roster channel handles local custody if it loads. The jail phone handles current custody questions and bond or property routing. Public-record requests can be used for booking records or booking photos not online. SAVIN and VINELink support notification. MyCase handles court case records. IDOC, BOP, USMS, and ICE cover custody levels outside the county jail.

Montgomery County Jail Facility

The only local detention facility in the facility map is the Montgomery County Jail. The county page states that the jail opened in June 2006 and has 224 beds. Its bed breakout is 130 male beds, 40 female beds, 12 temporary beds, 2 padded detox beds, and 40 work-release beds. The sheriff page adds that housing includes temporary, medical, permanent, and detox or anti-self-harm cells.

Booking Process in Montgomery County

Montgomery County does not publish a full booking manual, so the local booking explanation must combine county jail facts with Indiana jail standards. Arresting agencies may include sheriff's deputies, Crawfordsville police officers, state troopers, or other law-enforcement officers. After transport to the county jail, staff confirm identity and custody authority, inventory property, screen medical or mental-health needs, and classify the person for housing.

Indiana county jail standards under 210 IAC 3 require admitted-inmate records and govern areas such as intake, housing, medical care, mail, and visitation. The sheriff page shows how that plays out locally: medical, dental, and therapeutic care are provided through contracted correctional healthcare; a nurse dispenses medication twice daily and is available 40 hours per week; and a doctor is onsite weekly and on call at all times.

Property release is also local and specific. An inmate may complete a property release form, and the designated person may pick up property Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with state-issued picture ID. If the inmate is transferred to IDOC, property must be picked up within 60 days of transfer or it will be destroyed.

Montgomery County Jail Visitation

The current sheriff Jail Info page says inmates may receive visitors after five full days of detention. Each inmate may submit visitation sheets for up to five approved adults per month. Visits are first-come, first-served, onsite visits are not scheduled ahead of time, no early check-ins are allowed, and visitors must show state-issued picture ID. Each visit is 20 minutes and may be terminated by jail staff for rule violations.

Visits must be scheduled at least 25 minutes before the end of the listed visiting block or Securus and jail staff will deny the request. The current sheriff page allows one minor with each visitor, while an older county page says no person under 18 may visit or be in the area. Treat child-visitor rules as a detail to confirm with the jail before travel.

Mail Money and Bond

Mail is allowed during regular postal days and times, but Montgomery County's mail rules are unusually specific. The sheriff warns that mail violations can result in prosecution or mail being intercepted and confiscated. Prohibited items include stickers, unknown substances or discoloration, adhesives, powders, glitter, currency, mechanized or battery-operated devices, newspaper or magazine clippings, books, book pages, and printed-out pictures or text. Photos must be unedited or SOOC, meaning straight out of camera.

Find State and Federal Inmates

If the person is no longer in the Montgomery County Jail, check the custody level before assuming the record is missing. The Indiana Department of Correction locator covers sentenced state prisoners. It can show DOC number, name, date of birth, race, sex, facility or location, sentence information, cause number, county of conviction, and projected release date. A county booking number does not become a DOC number.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal sentenced prisoners from 1982 to present. ICE ODLS handles immigration detention and is separate from the local jail. U.S. Marshals custody may involve federal pretrial detention in local, state, federal, or private facilities, but USMS does not provide a full public inmate roster.

Hold warning: A local bond payment may not release a person if another county, federal, state, or immigration hold remains active.
